HRC Honors Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
January 20, 2014 by Maureen McCarty, HRC Associate Director of Digital Media
Martin Luther King, Jr Day of Service stands as a time to empower individuals and unite communities to address national challenges.
Today, HRC will honor the life and legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. by participating with health and human service providers across the country to address LGBT youth homelessness.
According to a study by the Williams Institute, The Palette Fund, and the True Colors Fund, LGBT youth make up to 40% of homeless and at-risk youth. And, according to a study by Center for American Progress, LGBT youth are eight times more likely to commit suicide if rejected by family members.
On this important national holiday, join HRC and its partnering organizations to help transform Dr. King’s life and teachings into community action.
