HRC Endorses Maggie Hassan for NH Governor
September 6, 2012 by Dan Rafter, Associate Director of Communications
HRC announced this morning our endorsement of Maggie Hassan, the Democratic candidate for governor of New Hampshire.
Hassan, an equality supporter, is facing Republican candidates who have advocated for repeal of New Hampshire’s popular marriage equality law.
In announcing the endorsement, Hassan reiterated her commitment to protecting the rights of all New Hampshire citizens: “In 2009, we answered the civil rights call of our time by making marriage equality a reality for each and every New Hampshire citizen. I was proud to play a role in making that happen. As Governor, I will stand up to anyone who tries to repeal marriage equality and always protect the fundamental right of fair and equal treatment for every citizen of New Hampshire.”
HRC National Field Director Marty Rouse echoed the importance of this gubernatorial race: “Anti-equality forces are at work to try and turn back the clock on New Hampshire’s historic marriage equality law. The stakes in this election couldn’t be higher, and we know that Maggie Hassan is the strong leader New Hampshire needs to protect the rights of all families.”
