HRC Commends Swift NBA Action on Offensive Bryant Slur

HRC applauds NBA Commissioner David Stern’s decision to fine Kobe Bryant after he unleashed a homophobic slur on a referee during a game last night against the San Antonio Spurs.

Commissioner Sterns has decided to fine Bryant $100,000 and stated “Kobe Bryant’s comment during last night’s game was offensive and inexcusable.  While I’m fully aware that basketball is an emotional game, such a distasteful term should never be tolerated.  Accordingly, I have fined Kobe $100,000.  Kobe and everyone associated with the NBA know that insensitive or derogatory comments are not acceptable and have no place in our game or society.”

Hopefully Kobe will recognize that his actions have a profound impact and homophobic attacks should not be tolerated.  HRC is calling on Kobe to apologize.
