HRC Celebrates 50th Anniversary of Freedom Summer

Freedom Summer is a notable moment in American history when hundreds of people from across the country traveled to Mississippi to challenge repeated and vicious attempts to keep African-Americans from voting and even holding office.
In North Carolina and Mississippi, HRC is supporting efforts to commemorate the historic and brave sacrifices made in 1964 to ensure African-Americans participate in our democracy.
In North Carolina, HRC will make a significant investment to mobilize its membership, support field organizing and train voter registration organizers.
The centerpiece of this summer-long effort is a deep organizing campaign that is placing 50 highly-trained Moral Freedom Summer
