HRC & African Rights Activists Group to Host Discussion on Human Rights Defenders in Exile

HRC African Human Rights group discussion

Join HRC on September 5 for a discussion with the African Rights Activists Group on the work of human rights defenders in exile who are forced to limit their activities in their country of exile.

Human rights defenders in exile face multiple challenges, including racism, indifference, exclusion, poverty, gender inequality, homophobia and xenophobia. This panel will discuss these issues with four individuals affected by such challenges.

The event will feature Bruce Knotts, Chair of UN NGO Committees on Human Rights and Disarmament, Peace & Security and the Faiths Ethics Network for ICC; Myra Dahgaypaw, Campaigns Coordinator for US Campaign for Burma; Mindy Michaels, Program Officer for Freedom House; and Luzau Balowa, Chariperson for ARAG Refugee Community Initiatives.

The event is on Thursday, September 5 from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the HRC Equality Forum.
