Houston to Consider Equal Rights Ordinance Today
May 28, 2014 by Cathryn Oakley, Legislative Counsel, State & Municipal Advocacy
The Houston City Council has begun today's session in which it will consider the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance (HERO).
The council room and overflow areas are packed, with people spilling into the hallways - and most of them are wearing red to show their support!
We expect today's session to last most of the day and perhaps into the evening, and we feel hopeful that the HERO will pass successfully by tonight. As I look around the room I am so inspired by the hard work of everyone who got the HERO to this point, and I know we will all keep our fingers crossed until the vote is taken.
