Historic: Pentagon Holds First-Ever Pride Event

History was made at the Pentagon earlier today, as military leadership hosted the first-ever Pride event. This June is the first time lesbian, gay, and bisexual members of the military have been able to celebrate openly. The event, which took place in a packed room at the Pentagon, featured Pride messages from President Obama and Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta:

According to OutServe Magazine, General Counsel Jeh Johnson officiated the event. In his remarks, General Johnson, one of the leads of the Comprehensive Working Group which wrote the report on the implementation of DADT repeal, said he and his fellow working group members found that much of the opposition to open service was based on “misconceptions and stereotypes.”

The General went on to say repeal implementation was going “better than anticipated.” Read the full piece in OutServe.
