Historic Day: Supreme Court Will Hear Marriage Equality Cases
December 7, 2012 by Dan Rafter, Online Campaigns Manager
We learned earlier this afternoon that the Supreme Court will take up two marriage equality-related cases in the coming months – hearing arguments on California’s Prop 8 ban on marriage equality, and the discriminatory federal Defense of Marriage Act.
HRC President Chad Griffin, a founding board member of the American Foundation for Equal Rights (AFER), recruited the legal dream team of Theodore Olson and David Boies to successfully argue the Prop. 8 case. With today’s news, we will likely hear by June 2013 whether the Supreme Court recognizes the rights of same-sex couples to marry.
Below, Chad participates on a call with reporters from AFER’s Los Angeles office. Stay with HRC for the latest on today’s historic news.
