Herman Cain Supports Constitutional Amendment Banning Same-Sex Marriage
October 24, 2011 by Dan Rafter, Associate Director of Communications
First, Herman Cain insists being gay is a choice – and ignores us when we offer to ‘show him the science’ he asked to see stating otherwise. Now, the GOP presidential candidate is voicing his support for an amendment to the Constitution that would prevent committed, loving same-sex couples from getting married – and receiving the benefits and protections that come with it.
In an interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network, Cain said: “I think marriage should be protected at the federal level also. I used to believe that it could be just handled by the states but there’s a movement going on to basically take the teeth out of the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act, and that could cause an unraveling….So we do need some protection at the federal level because of that and so, yes, I would support legislation that would say that it’s between a man and a woman.”
Thousands of HRC members and supporters have already taken action telling Herman Cain to get with the times – add your name now.
Cain’s anti-LGBT posturing is just the latest we’ve seen coming from the GOP field – from Michele Bachmann’s foray into reparative therapy to Rick Perry’s alliance with some of the nation’s leading anti-LGBT groups.
