Harvey Milk’s Alma-Mater Comes Out to Support Marriage Equality!

The following post comes from Shirin Khosravi, HRC field organizer in the Hudson Valley, working to make marriage equality a reality for all New Yorkers:

College campuses have been crucial in our fight for marriage equality in Rensselaer and Saratoga Counties. Sage College, U Albany, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute have all welcomed me onto campus, and students are eager to be involved.

This past week, I was at Sage College and U Albany, where our table was staffed by volunteers from the all of the campus LGBT groups. Students and faculty gathered around to sign marriage equality postcards, call their Senator and write personal letters about why marriage should be afforded to all citizens in the community. One student at U Albany reminded me that Harvey Milk was an alumnus of the school and that although the fight is not over, we have come a long way.

Next week, I will be at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at their annual drag ball with over 300 community members on the guest list. I am so excited to see the support, and flood our Senator’s office with letters and calls. It should be a great night!
