Happy Pride from Team HRC in Atlanta

Happy pride to everyone from Team HRC here in Atlanta! So many of the estimated 200,000+ attendees stopped by our 'On the Road to Equality' open house to find out more about what the bus is doing here and what HRC is currently up to. Yesterday alone we signed up over 500 new and renewing members and over 1,000 supporters into the LGBT political movement! The energy is infectious and should only elevate with today's pride parade (along with requisite HRC viewing brunch at 5 Napkin Burger).
One of the great things about Atlanta Pride is what a diverse crowd it draws. Many attendees have traveled here from hundreds of miles away to be part of the celebration. The stories we hear are similar to the stories we've heard since the bus first pulled up to Salt Lake City - that attitudes towards the LGBT community are improving, but there's a long road to travel yet. The visibility that events like Atlanta Pride provides to share our stories can not be overstated. One striking example of this was the young woman who came up to our exhibit to tell us how she finally felt comfortable enough to this Tuesday on National Coming Out Day to write letters to her family and friends sharing her true self with them..
Endless thanks to our partners at the Atlanta Pride committee for their great hospitality and partnership with our Road to Equality tour. Stay tuned for the Tuesday National Coming Out Day "Speak Out for Equality" event at Spelman College we are co-hosting with the pride committee as well.
Happy pride from our staff and the Atlanta Steering Committee!
