Growing Republican Support for LGBT Protections in Virginia
February 21, 2014 by Marty Rouse, National Field Director
Republican Delegate Ron Villanueva (Virginia Beach) recently introduced legislation that would prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity by public employers.
Although the bill did not receive a vote in committee it is a significant step forward in Virginia. In fact, several other Republican legislators put their names on LGBT legislation, as well.
At a legislative reception in Richmond last night, I had the honor to personally thank Delegate Villanueva for his support. He told us he was determined to pass non-discrimination legislation.
HRC looks forward to working with this Republican supporter of equality to build a majority of support for needed protections for LGBT Virginians.
