Gender Identity Bill in Delaware Receives Big Endorsements
June 4, 2013 by Karl Bach, Senior Regional Field Organizer
In the last week Equality Delaware has announced two major endorsements in the effort to include gender identity into Delaware’s nondiscrimination and hate crimes laws.
Yesterday, Governor Jack Markell reiterated his support for fairness in Delaware saying, “It is past time that we ensure that all Delawareans are treated fairly. The Gender Identity Nondiscrimination Act is about making sure that Delaware is safe and welcoming for all to live, work and raise a family.” Thanks to the ongoing support of Governor Markell all that remains is making sure that the gender identity nondiscrimination bill passes through the Delaware General Assembly before session ends on June 30th.
Delaware’s Attorney General Beau Biden also reasserted his support for the gender identity nondiscrimination bill in a video produced by Equality Delaware. To watch the full video click here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pSyiH1KaBdg As Delaware’s top law enforcement official, Biden said that one of his most important jobs as Attorney General is to see that everyone receives equal treatment under the law. In the video Biden Pledges to work with the Delaware General Assembly to provide protections from violence and discrimination based on gender identity and expression.
HRC has had staff working in Delaware since January with Equality Delaware on the marriage equality bill and now on the gender identity nondiscrimination bill. To learn what you can do to help the effort in Delaware please contact Karl Bach at Karl.Bach@hrc.org.
