Gay Wedding Issue of Archie Comics Sells Out
March 5, 2012 by HRC staff
The following post comes from HRC Digital Media Team Member Eric Cameron:
The gay wedding issue of Archie Comics, first released in January, has officially sold out.
Life With Archie #16 features the marriage of Kevin Keller and Dr. Clay Walker. Kevin – the first ever gay character in the Archie universe – has proven wildly popular with readers. His debut in Veronica #202 sold out in a matter of weeks, prompting the first reprint in Archie Comics history.
Last week, One Million Moms – an offshoot of the anti-gay American Family Association – launched a boycott campaign against Toys “R” Us for their prominent and “uncalled for” display of the top-selling wedding issue. It seems the campaign has had little effect on sales.
Jon Goldwater, Co-CEO of Archie Comics, anticipates a long future for Kevin Keller. “Kevin will always be a major part of Riverdale, and we’re overjoyed, honored and humbled by the response to this issue. Our fans have come out full force to support Kevin. He is, without a doubt, the most important new character in Archie history. He’s here to stay.”
