With the world looking critically at the potential impact of Russia’s repressive anti-LGBT laws on the upcoming Olympic Games, advocates in the U.S. are preparing to celebrate the game-changing legacies of some two dozen LGBT figures in professional sports.
Openly LGBT athletes and their supporters will gather tonight at Chicago’s Center on Halsted for the inaugural induction ceremony to the new National Gay & Lesbian Sports Hall of Fame.
The 26 inductees in this inaugural class include tennis icons Martina Navratilova, Billie Jean King and Renee Richards, golfer Patty Sheehan, Olympic diver Greg Louganis, boxer Orlando Cruz, umpire Dave Pallone, skater Johnny Weir, NBA center Jason Collins and the late MLB outfielder Glenn Burke.
