Full House in Attendance for HRC’s First-Ever Equality Talk

Post submitted by Eric Cameron, HRC Digital Media Specialist

Last night, the HRC Equality Forum was filled to capacity as visitors and special guests attended our very first Equality Talk.

Developmental and clinical psychologist Diane Ehrensaft read passages from her recent book, Gender Born, Gender Made: Raising Healthy Gender-Nonconforming Children, and presented her model of the true gender self and the three-dimensional gender web.

A self-described “eternal optimist,” Dr. Ehrensaft also told personal anecdotes from her 25 years of work with gender non-conforming children and their families.

Dr. Ehrensaft currently serves as the Director of Mental Health at San Francisco’s Child and Adolescent Gender Center. During last night’s Q&A, she was joined onstage by Edgardo J. Menvielle, MD, of DC’s Children’s National Medical Center – the first U.S. center of its kind to address the needs of gender-nonconforming children.

Full video of this inaugural event is available at www.hrc.org/equalitytalks.

We hope you’ll be able to join us again in person or online for next month’s Equality Talk. Speakers will be announced shortly.
