FRC President Tony Perkins is embracing the GOP’s far-right 2012 platform, which comes down hard on LGBT people, women, and immigrants, among others. We told you earlier this week that the platform pushes for a federal amendment banning loving, committed same-sex couples from marrying; and also calls for a revitalized defense of the discriminatory Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).
Despite the fact that the GOP is poised to adopt a platform far to the right of both mainstream American values and the opinions of many within the Republican Party, Perkins praised far-right document in an email last night:
Yesterday, we learned that during the platform hearings, one delegate spoke out against an amendment that would drop the party’s longstanding defense of DOMA by comparing homosexuality to activities like drug use and polygamy.
