Federal Judge Denies Idaho Governor’s Motion to Stay Same-Sex Marriage
May 14, 2014 by Maureen McCarty, HRC Associate Director of Digital Media
U.S. District Magistrate Judge Candy Dale today denied a motion by Idaho's Governor to put same-sex marriages on hold pending a state appeal.
Yesterday, Dale ruled that Idaho’s ban on marriage equality is unconstitutional.
Same-sex couples may be able to obtain marriage licenses as soon as Friday at 9am Mountain Time.
The case was brought by four same-sex couples represented by Boise attorneys Deborah A. Ferguson and Craig Durham and the National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR). Congratulations to the plaintiffs and their attorneys!
