Faith Communities Rally Behind Marriage Equality in Poughkeepsie
June 19, 2011 by Marty Rouse, National Field Director
This post comes from HRC field organizer Shirin Khosravi.
Today after services at Christ Episcopal Church in Poughkeepsie, Father Blake Rider helped organize a rally in support of marriage equality. The congregation was joined by local residents from different faith backgrounds, including a Lutheran minister and Rabbi Neal Joseph Loevinger, who made a very moving speech in support of equality.
Our very own HRC volunteer and Beacon resident, Bryanne, also spoke as a member of the faith community and a mother on why she wants her daughter to grow up in a place where all citizens are treated fairly and equally. All attendees signed postcards, and were encouraged to call their senators to represent the support of the religious groups in the area.
We are still working hard all across the state and we need your support! Together we can ensure that New York recognizes ALL loving and committed couples. Join us!
