ENDA Organizers Deliver Postcards in Arkansas

american's for workplace opportunity field organizers ENDABlog post submitted by James Rector, HRC field organizer. Rector is the board president of the Northwest Arkansas Center for Equality in Fayetteville.

On an overcast day in Little Rock’s River Market, the disposition was still sunny for Americans for Workplace Opportunity field organizers Anne Haley, ShelenaWilliams, and James Rector as over 3100 postcards were hand delivered to Senator Pryor’s Little Rock office. The delivery was made on the heels of the Senator’s momentous public announcement where he pledged his support for the Employment Non Discrimination Act.

With a vote coming soon on the legislation to prohibit discrimination in the workplace for reason of sexual orientation or gender identity, every Democratic U.S. Senator has expressed support to end workplace discrimination.

The Americans for Workplace Opportunity campaign has been on the ground in Arkansas since August building and mobilizing grassroots support for ENDA. In addition to the more than 3,100 postcards, Arkansans made hundreds of calls to the Senator’s office, as well hundreds of hand-written letters of support.

A recent survey conducted by prominent GOP pollster Alex Lundry projects support for ENDA in Arkansas to stand at 62 percent. Nationally, nearly 70 percent of Americans – including 56 percent of Republicans – support the legislation.
