Emma’s Dad is Gay – and She’s All Right
April 25, 2011
It's so important to note that despite some recent disappointing setbacks in the fight for equality for LGBT families, LGBT parents across the country are raising children, and the children are thriving.
People who think differently haven’t heard these youths speak about their childhood and their love for their families.
Well, they should listen up – kids of LGBT parents are sharing their stories for HRC’s new project, We’re All Right. Our newest video is from Emma, a 22-year-old North Carolinian who has a gay dad. Of course, Emma is doing just great.
“Anyone who thinks that LGBT parents really can’t be good parents, can’t raise good kids, I would say that they haven’t really met an LGBT parent,” Emma says. “Because those people just want their kids to be happy and healthy, just like everybody else.”
Emma is just one of many, many kids of LGBT parents who is thriving. Anti-LGBT groups will have you believe that these kids are growing up with all kinds of hardships and problems. Emma, Abby, Zach Wahls, Peter Hams and many others want you to know that their families aren’t all that different than any other American family.
Visit www.hrc.org/allright today and help spread the word that kids of LGBT parents are all right.
If you have LGBT parents, record a video with your story and upload it to YouTube, then post it on our wall. If you don’t, please share these videos with your family, friends and colleagues.
