Ellen to Sit Down With Ousted Eagle Scout
October 10, 2012 by Maureen McCarty, HRC Associate Director of Digital Media
On National Coming Out Day, ousted Boy Scout Ryan Andresen is scheduled to appear on Ellen to talk about his dismissal from the organization.
Andreson first made headlines when he was denied Eagle Scout status because he is openly gay. Shortly after, Andreson’s mother started a petition calling on the Boy Scouts to allow her son the designation he earned.
The petition quickly grew to over 350,000 signatures, and across the country Eagle Scouts have pledged to return their own Eagle Scout pins in support of Andreson.
All week we’ve illuminated the struggles LGBT youth face. This NCOD, you can support those struggling to come out by taking a stand as an ally for equality.
