Discussing LGBT Patient-Centered Care in Atlanta
October 6, 2011 by Admin
On Thursday, October 6, local hospital representatives gathered in downtown in Atlanta to discuss how medical centers and health professionals can provide equitable and inclusive care to their LGBT patients. LGBT health expert Shane Snowdon led the discussion on the disparities, inequities, and anxieties experienced by LGBT patients and their families.
HRC's national Healthcare Equality Index is among the tools presented to the attendees. The HEI provides administrators with a way to evaluate their policies with the goal of providing LGBT patients with equitable care.
Snowdon is the founding director of the Center for LGBT Health & Equity at the University of California San Francisco, the country’s only LGBT resource in a health care or health education setting, and a member of HRC’s Healthcare Equality Index National Advisory Council.
We’d like to thank The Health Initiative and Grady Health Systems for their sponsorship of this event, and look forward to working with them on projects affecting the LGBT community in the future.
