Department of Health and Human Services Awards $900,000 LGBT Elders Grant
February 10, 2010
In October, the Department of Health and Human Services revealed plans to create a national resource center for LGBT elders. Today, HHS announced that its Administration on Aging had awarded funds to create that resource center to Services and Advocacy for GLBT Elders (SAGE). SAGE is the oldest and largest organization serving LGBT older adults and HRC has partnered with the group to provide aging resources on our website. According to the announcement, SAGE will be awarded $900,000 over three years and will partner with other organizations to create, among other tools, a "comprehensive web-based clearinghouse" on LGBT aging issues. HRC congratulates SAGE on receiving this grant and thanks Secretary Sebelius, the Department of Health and Human Services and the Administration on Aging for recognizing the need for dedicated resources to assist this too-often ignored segment of the LGBT community and the population at large.
