Dems Get Specific on Workplace Protections in Draft Platform
August 10, 2012 by Dan Rafter, Online Campaigns Manager
We got a look yesterday at the marriage equality language in the Democrat’s draft platform, and now we’re learning that the platform also gets very specific in its support for an inclusive Employment Non-Discrimination Act that protects on the basis of both sexual orientation and gender identity.
According to BuzzFeed, the proposed platform language on employment protections reads:
We know that putting America back to work is job one, and we are committed to ensuring Americans do not face employment discrimination. We support the Employment Non-Discrimination Act because people should not be fired based on their sexual orientation or gender identity.
Currently, you can be fired in 34 states for your gender identity and 29 for your sexual orientation.
The draft language must be ratified by the full platform committee and then by the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte next month.
