Gender Identity Non-Discrimination Act Passes Delaware House
June 18, 2013 by Karl Bach, Senior Regional Field Organizer
Today the Delaware House approved the Gender Identity Nondiscrimination Act- SB 97. The bill adds gender identity to the existing list of protected nondiscrimination categories, including race, age, religion and sexual orientation. This legislation also allows for enhanced penalties under Delaware's hate crimes law for targeting someone based on his or her gender identity. The bill passed in the House of Representatives today after passing in the State Senate earlier this month. The bill will return to the Senate where an amendment will need to be approved before it moves to Governor Jack Markell's desk. Governor Markell has been a leader in the fight for transgender protections and will sign the bill.
