Correction: Openly Gay Judge One Step Closer to Confirmation
March 25, 2014 by HRC staff
In a post earlier this morning, HRC stated that Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) was delaying the hearing of Federal District Court nominee Judge Darrin Gayles by failing to submit a signed "blue slip."
We welcome a correction from Senator Rubio's staff that the Senator has submitted the "blue slip" allowing Judge Gayles' nomination to proceed. We regret this error, and thank the Senator for clearing the way for this important nomination to move forward.
Judge Gayles was nominated by President Obama last month to serve on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida. Judge Gayles, who was nominated alongside three other candidates, would serve as the first openly gay, African American man on the federal bench.
