Commemorate MLK Day of Service with HRC
January 11, 2013 by Maureen McCarty, HRC Associate Director of Digital Media
This January 21 is not only Inauguration Day, but also Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service. You can join HRC’s members and supporters across the country for service projects benefiting LGBT homeless youth.
We believe we have a responsibility to ensure the safety and well being of our LGBT youth, who make up 40 percent of homeless and at-risk youth.
By transforming Dr. King’s life and teachings into community action, MLK Day of Service helps to meet national challenges by bringing people together, strengthening communities and benefiting those who serve.
We also want to see how you’re commemorating this year’s Day of Service. We’ll be posting photos to our Instagram account throughout the weekend from some of our events. To participate, give @HumanRightsCampaign a shout-out on Instagram and use the hashtag #DayofService. We’ll republish some of our favorites.
