Coming Every Sunday: Faith Voices for Equality
June 19, 2009
At HRC’s 2009 Clergy Call for Justice and Equality, 10 nationally renowned clergy and theologians spoke out about how their faith traditions compelled them to be voices for equality. They spoke in the backdrop of our nation’s Capitol surrounded by hundreds of clergy who came to Washington, D.C. from across the country to advocate with their members of Congress for the passage of the Mathew Sheppard Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act and the Employment Non Discrimination Act. At this time when we are witnessing a rise in hate related violence coupled with an increase in job insecurity that is intensified for LGBT workers who can be fired in a majority of states simply for who they are, we wanted you to hear and read the stirring call to action of these faith advocates. These religious leaders, speaking from the core of their faith traditions, are some of the most inspiring advocates we know. See for yourself. Starting this Sunday, watch the videos, read the transcripts and pass them along to those who need to hear their message. Harry Knox and Sharon Groves, HRC’s Religion and Faith Program
