Chick-fil-A Anti-Gay: ‘Guilty As Charged’
July 18, 2012 by Dan Rafter, Online Campaigns Manager
Remember when it came to light that Chick-fil-A donated nearly $2 million to hate groups, groups working against marriage equality and groups advocating the roundly disproven ex-gay movement?
Well, even the most ardent supporters of the chain’s spicy chicken sandwiches and waffle fries may have a tough time digesting the remarks Chick-fil-A COO Dan Cathy is now peddling: he says that when it comes to his company’s anti-LGBT affiliations, they’re “guilty as charged.”
Join HRC in standing up to this discrimination. Sign our pledge now and let Chick-fil-A know that they are on the wrong side of history.
Jeremy Hooper has the audio of Cathy going on to make the following assessment of committed, loving couples marrying: “We’re inviting God’s judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say we know better than You as to what constitutes marriage.”
Here’s a reminder of some of Chick-fil-A’s anti-LGBT giving:
- $480,000 to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, a group that has publically denounced the “impure lifestyle” of LGBT Americans;
- $12,500 to Focus on the Family, identified as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center back in 2005; and
- $1,000 to Exodus International – a group that promotes the unsafe practice of ex-gay therapy.
HRC Communications Director Michael Cole-Schwartz addressed Chick-fil-A’s anti-LGBT giving in an interview with ABC News last year:
