Chad Griffin Meets with San Francisco Community Leaders

After visiting the historic Castro Camera, HRC President Chad Griffin met this morning with San Francisco Bay Area community leaders at the Harvey Milk Civil Rights Academy.

More than fifty community leaders were on hand to welcome Chad to his new position as president of the Human Rights Campaign and to share their concerns with him.  Many issues were raised in the meeting, including LGBT seniors, work for equality at the state and local levels, and the need to better engage young people in the movement for equality.

In attendance were many of Harvey Milk's associates, including LGBT rights crusader Cleve Jones.  Also in attendance were San Francisco City Attorney Dennis Herrera, Executive Director of the San Francisco Human Rights Commission Theresa Sparks, and member of the San Francisco Health Commission Cecilia Chung, along with leaders of organizations serving LGBT San Franciscans.

Harvey Milk's friend and associate Danny Nicoletta reminded those in attendance that the room at the Harvey Milk Academy where today's meeting took place was the same room where  community leaders including Harvey Milk came together in 1974 to discuss the Labor Day beatings and arrests by the San Francisco Police Department of gay men walking down Castro Street.
