Celebrating Historic Victories
November 9, 2012 by Dan Rafter, Online Campaigns Manager
HRC staff took a few moments yesterday to celebrate the historic victories our community saw on Tuesday night. For the past two years, we’ve been laying the groundwork for our largest mobilization effort ever to ensure 2012 was a year of milestone victories. We’re proud to have worked with the great campaigns in the four marriage ballot states. HRC, along with our energized supporters, raised or contributed more than $20 million to re-elect President Obama and to advance marriage equality and other electoral priorities.
Our members and supporters truly drove these victories – it is what allowed us to harness the power and reach of our political action committees, staff, board members, steering committees, and volunteers across the country to make this unprecedented mobilization a reality.
Whenever a state has a victory for marriage equality, we have a tradition at HRC of raising that state flag, along with the American and equality flags, over our building here in D.C. Because of the unprecedented victories we experienced this week, we had to make a slight change to accommodate all of the flags this time around! Check out the Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, and Washington State flags on display in our Equality Forum:
