Celebrate Census Day and Spread the Word - BE COUNTED!
April 1, 2010
It's Census Day! By now you should have received your 2010 Census form in your mailbox. The census is important to every member of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Communities. It helps determine how more than $400 billion annually of government funding is allocated for hospitals, schools and public safety in our communities. And it impacts our voice in Congress. Here is information you should know about the 2010 Census and LGBT Communities:
- The census counts same-sex married spouses and same-sex unmarried partners
Couples who are married or consider themselves to be spouses can identify as “husband or wife” on the census form. This includes couples who may live somewhere their relationship is not recognized. Other couples can identify as “unmarried partners.”
- The census counts people as they self identify.
Transgender individuals can select the gender they identify with on the census form.
- The census is safe.
By law, your responses to the census are confidential and cannot be shared with anyone. Fill it out and mail it back today! Our community is depending on it!
