Catholic, Republican Couple Stand Up for Marriage Equality in Minnesota in New TV Ad
September 18, 2012 by HRC staff
This post comes from HRC Editorial and Digital Media Intern Leanne Naramore:
Minnesotans United for All Families released the first in a series of ads today encouraging Minnesotans to vote “no” on a proposed constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage.
The ad features a Catholic, Republican couple who hope to spread the message that family values exist beyond the realm of “one woman, one man.”
“The Cannys, informed by their faith and conservative values, represent many Minnesotans who have come to the conclusion they don’t want to limit the freedom to marry for committed same-sex couples in this state and will vote no,” says Richard Carlbom, Campaign Manager for Minnesotans United for All Families. “Like many Minnesotans, John and Kim have been influenced by friends, family and neighbors who would be impacted by this hurtful amendment. At the end of the day, they have concluded that that there are all kinds of Minnesota families, and no one would want to be told it’s illegal to marry the person you love.”
Get involved with Minnesotans United to share why you’re voting “no” in November.
HRC is a proud supporter of the coalition, Minnesotans United for All Families, working to defeat the amendment banning same-sex marriage in the state. HRC has set up a special fund – HRC Minnesota Family Freedom PAC – to direct 100 percent of your contribution to defeat the anti-marriage constitutional amendment in Minnesota.
