Calling for Equality in Maine
August 17, 2012 by HRC staff
This post comes from HRC Phone Bank Coordinator Kate Kramer:
A dedicated group of volunteers gathered at HRC’s Headquarters in D.C. last night to contact Maine’s marriage equality supporters. The campaign in Maine is in full swing. With less than 12 weeks until Election Day we asked our supporters to do a lot – and they came through! Callers signed up 17 new volunteer shifts, got 58 people to commit to vote early by mail and persuaded 64 people to sign their names to an ad in support of marriage equality. Some voters said they would forward information on to family and friends so that they can also get involved.
These person-to-person calls are the single most effective way to mobilize our supporters. To get involved in Maine, contact Senior Regional Field Organizer Karl Bach (Karl.Bach@hrc.org) about upcoming events. If you are in the DC area, join us for our next set of phone banks on August 22 and 23, from 6:00PM to 8:30 pm. We start each session with a brief training and provide scripts, so you’ll know exactly what to say. To RSVP, please contact Kate Kramer at Kate.Kramer@hrc.org.
No matter where you live, you can make a difference in Maine. HRC has set up a special fund – HRC Maine Families PAC – to direct 100 percent of your contribution to help win marriage equality in Maine. Together, we can mobilize the majority of Mainers who support marriage equality and win at the ballot this November. See you soon!
