Calling for Action in Maryland
September 14, 2012 by HRC staff
This post comes from HRC Phone Bank Coordinator Kate Kramer:
The Greater Washington DC HRC steering committee is ready for action as we head into the final seven weeks before Election Day. Wednesday night they held a joint event with Marylanders For Marriage Equality, the campaign to win marriage equality at the ballot this year which HRC helped found. More than 40 people attended to get in-depth updates on the 2012 elections from HRC Political Action Committee Director, Mike Mings; Marylanders For Marriage Equality Associate Political Director, Donna Payne; and Marylanders For Marriage Equality Prince George’s County field organizer Shelena Williams.
After the briefing, participants took direct action and made over 900 calls to Maryland voters to tell them why it’s so important to vote FOR Question 6 on the November the 6th ballot to protect marriage for gay and lesbian couples.
As she ended her presentation, Shelena fired up the crowd, imploring them to be part of the campaign. “The President is with us. The Governor is with us. We need YOU to be with us.” Will YOU join us at our next Maryland phone bank on Wednesday, September 19 from 6pm-8:30pm? We’ll provide all the training and dinner. All you need to do is bring a friend! For more information contact HRC’s Phone Bank Coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org . We hope to see you soon!
HRC has set up a special fund to direct 100 percent of your contribution today to defend the marriage equality law in Maryland. HRC is a founding member and leader of Marylanders for Marriage Equality, the coalition campaign working to defend marriage in the Free State, and your contribution will support the coalition's efforts and count toward your HRC membership.
