Calling all Staten Islanders!
April 22, 2011 by HRC staff
This post comes from Jeremy Hammond, one of 12 HRC organizers in New York working to pass marriage equality:
Last night, field organizer Stephen Anderson and I took a group of 15 volunteers to the Staten Island Ferry for a night of action! The group comprised of NYC-based colleges and universities, Staten Islanders and some fantastic volunteers from Marriage Equality New York, had amazing energy and positivity because of the beautiful weather on the water. Through the hard work of our volunteers, we collected over 300 postcards and 25 calls into Senator Andrew Lanza's office!
We're working hard this week to increase constituents’ contact with their senators, while they are back home in their districts. With Sen. Andrew Lanza and Sen. Joe Addabbo working the next two weeks from their district offices, we have scheduled a series of visits from their constituents. In these meetings, average citizens from all walks of life will reach out to the Senators and tell them that as New Yorkers, they support marriage equality, and want the Senator to as well.
If you’re a New Yorker, make sure to call your state senator and let them know you support marriage equality. Our online tool makes it really easy. Click here to call your New York state senator!
