Calling all Equality-Loving People of Illinois’ 16th Congressional District

Post Submitted By Logan Clark. Logan is a field organizer working with the Americans for Workplace Opportunity campaign to secure support for the Employment Non-Discrimination Act in Illinois.
We built up a lot of momentum for the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) in DeKalb last week with our ENDA blitz at Northern Illinois University. We harnessed that NIU Huskie energy and hopped into a great weekend of reaching out to people of faith and talking to friends in the environmental community. As a result of these efforts, some terrific supporters of equality met with Congressman Kinzinger’s staff in Ottawa.
So, what’s next?
Congressman Kinzinger needs to know that voters in his district care about workplace discrimination and support passage of ENDA. We will be working with people across the district to help them write letters to their local newspapers. If you have a gift with the written word and like giving discrimination the old what-for, let us know! Your story needs to be heard by everyone, from Rockford to Ottawa to Watseka. Our stories only have power when they heard.
In addition to media, we’ll also be working to pass ENDA with an old-school ground game. We’ll be canvassing all over the district, letting people know about workplace discrimination. Chicago Gay Men’s Choir concert up in Rockford? You bet we’ll be there! Farmer’s market down in Ottawa? Oh yeah! If you live in or near Illinois’ 16th Congressional District and are interested in volunteering, please contact me at 860.578.7319 or firstname.lastname@example.org. And no matter where you live, you can send a message in support of ENDA to your congressperson today.
