Call It Out: U.S. Rep. Joe Walsh Perpetuates Harmful Lies about LGBT Parents
October 22, 2012 by Eric Cameron, Digital Media Associate
Republican Congressman Joe Walsh, currently running against HRC-endorsed Democratic challenger Tammy Duckworth in Illinois, is perpetuating dangerous lies that same-sex households are harmful to children.
The Chicago Tribune reports:
Walsh is also against gay marriage, saying it is a religious as well as a "socioeconomic issue." Walsh argues that "male-female, two-parent households" produce children who do better in school, stay away from drugs and are less likely to be in poverty.
The prevailing professional opinion is that a parent’s sexual orientation has nothing to do with his or her ability to be a good parent. All major studies on the matter show that the sexual orientation of a parent is not related to a child’s mental health and social development.
