Call It Out: Lawmaker Tells Pro-Equality Football Player to ‘Concentrate on Football’

Maryland Delegate Emmett C. Burns is trying to tamp down the backlash he’s facing after he sent a scathing letter to the owner of the Baltimore Ravens last week calling on stop allowing linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo to speak out on marriage equality.
In the letter, Delegate Burns wrote: “Mr. Ayanbadejo should concentrate on football and steer clear of dividing the fan base…” and went on to urge the owner to “inhibit such expressions from your employee” and order him to “cease and desist such injurious actions.”
A growing number of professional athletes support LGBT equality, and many fair-minded folks are stepping up and defending Ayanbadejo – including fellow athletes like Minnesota Viking Chris Kluwe.
