After winning last night’s primary, Brian Sims will go on to become Pennsylvania’s first openly gay lawmaker.
The policy attorney defeated Babette Josephs, the longtime Democratic incumbent in Philadelphia’s District 182. He faces no Republican opposition in November.
A long-time civil rights advocate, Sims has been endorsed by the Victory Fund. He formerly served as President of the Board of Directors at Equality Pennsylvania and made NCAA history as the first openly gay captain of an NCAA football team. He described his coming out story in a guest post on HRC Backstory last year.
HRC congratulates Brian Sims on last night’s groundbreaking victory!
