Bagel Brunch Town Hall in Anchorage for YES on 5!
March 19, 2012 by HRC staff
This post comes from Maggie Thompson, one of HRC's organizers in Anchorage working on Yes on Prop 5:
On April 3, voters in Anchorage will have the opportunity to pass Proposition 5, a ballot initiative that would add sexual orientation and transgender identity protections in employment, housing, and public accommodations. With early voting starting today, the One Anchorage campaign to pass Prop 5 is in full swing. We've been on the ground for five days now and have seen tons of support from volunteers and community members. Yesterday, supporters came together for a Bagel Brunch Town Hall meeting to learn how to get involved in the final weeks of the campaign.
The meeting was packed with excited community members. Their shouts of “YES on 5!” filled the room with the positive energy that is essential to every campaign in the last few days before an important election like this. Over coffee and bagels, volunteers talked about telling their stories, calling voters, and recruiting friends and family to get involved in the campaign. When Election Day comes in just two short weeks, the staff and volunteers who are the heart of One Anchorage will know they did everything they could to make certain that the City of Anchorage becomes a safer place for people in the LGBT community. Anchorage has the opportunity to join over 150 other cities and municipalities that have extended the same legal protections to LGBT people.
HRC organizers will be on the ground through Election Day on April 3. Stay tuned from more info about Prop 5.
