Ask Rick Perry: Do You Support State Protections for Same-Sex Couples?
July 29, 2011
Texas Governor Rick Perry recently attempted to clarify his remarks regarding New York’s same-sex marriage law after being taken to the woodshed by anti-gay Family Research Council President Tony Perkins.
Perry, who originally called marriage equality a state issue, said: “That’s New York, and that’s their business, and that’s fine with me.” His “clarification” today is anything but clear. It raises many more questions about where he really stands on marriage equality and the rights of gay and lesbian couples.
No LGBT American, nor Tony Perkins for that matter, really knows what Gov. Perry really thinks based on this “clarification.”
We have some questions for Gov. Perry that would actually clarify where he really stands. We’ll ask a new one each day, and we need your help to get an answer. Today, we’d like to know:
Governor Perry, do you support the rights of states to enact legal protections, responsibilities and benefits for gay and lesbian couples?
