Are Rep. Steve King’s Pants on Fire?
May 18, 2009
The St. Petersburg Times' PolitiFact says they are. In an article in their "Truth-O-Meter" the paper examines Rep. King's outrageous claims that the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act would "provide special protection to pedophiles and other sexual deviants." On a scale from "truth" to "pants on fire" (which by the way is an even worse lie than "false") King's comments rate the flaming one. Here's how they summarize their findings:
So we've found nothing to support the opponents' claims that pedophiles would be protected by the hate crimes bill. The experience of 31 states that have similar laws, the FBI's definition of sexual orientation and the opinions of legal experts have persuaded us not only that the opponents are wrong, but that their arguments are preposterous. We find King's claim to be Pants on Fire.
