An hour outside of Los Angeles in the high desert sits Antelope Valley, a traditionally conservative area with a growing LGBT community in Southern California. Last weekend HRC participated in the Valley’s fourth annual Pride event. Antelope Valley is generally 10 to 20 degrees hotter than the city and extremely windy, but that did not stop people from celebrating Pride at the Antelope Valley Fairgrounds.
Hundreds of people attended the event and our volunteer roster was busting at the seams! While most of the booths around us were empty, people were standing in line to talk to us and support HRC.
As our photographer was taking photos outside of the booth she overheard many people saying how extremely happy they were that HRC went out of their way to attend such a small event. “Thank you” was the term of the day. We received a record number of memberships this weekend, and add to that lots of love and support.
Thank you Antelope Valley. We will be back!
