Ann Romney Turns Down Values Voter Summit
September 12, 2012 by Dan Rafter, Online Campaigns Manager
Ann Romney is turning down an invitation to speak at this weekend’s Values Voter Summit, held by the Family Research Council. HRC joined the Southern Poverty Law Center and a number of other human rights groups yesterday in calling on scheduled speakers to skip the event because of FRC’s long track record of spreading hateful, untrue, and dangerous lies about the LGBT community.
Mitt Romney was invited to speak as well, but has not confirmed. But the Romney-Ryan ticket will be represented at the FRC event – Rep. Paul Ryan will be speaking.
Ann Romney joins Cardinal Timothy Dolan – no friend of LGBT equality – in turning down an invitation to speak at the event. The Family Research Council – on a regular basis – churns out harmful lies about the LGBT community. FRC President Tony Perkins has likened being gay to pedophilia; while another FRC staffer said LGBT people should be exported and even called for the criminalization of homosexuality.
