Ann Romney: “All Mitt & I Wanted to Do Was Just Go Get Married”
March 21, 2012 by Dan Rafter, Online Campaigns Manager
Mitt and Ann Romney are celebrating their 43rd anniversary today, and to celebrate Ann released a video chronicling the early days of her romance with Mitt. While observing Mitt and Ann's romance in the video below, it's impossible not to focus on what Romney's anti-LGBT policies deny committed, loving same-sex couples, and the message that sends about how the federal government views us.
It’s a video that covers the journey that so many Americans in committed relationships go through. Unfortunately, hundreds of thousands of loving same-sex couples across the country are denied the rights and benefits Mitt and Ann receive because of the discriminatory Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).
Not only has Mitt Romney pledged to uphold DOMA, he’s also vowed to fight for a federal marriage amendment banning marriage between committed, loving same-sex couples. Romney wants to deny over 1,100 federal benefits to couples who are just as in love as he and Ann are.
Ann’s message to Mitt is touching, but it also is a painful reminder of what a Romney presidency would cost LGBT families. All couples and families deserve the security and recognition that Mitt and Ann Romney are celebrating today.
