Update: Amendment One Supporter Fires Bullets into LGBT Equality Sign
May 1, 2012 by Dan Rafter, Associate Director of Communications
We’ve been telling you about the tremendous efforts underway in North Carolina to defeat the anti-LGBT Amendment One at the polls next Tuesday. Amendment One would strip legal recognitions from all unmarried couples – not just those who are LGBT. That puts many North Carolina families at risk of losing protections and access to critical services.
But a new video circulating online illustrates how at least one Amendment One supporter views LGBT people and the idea of marriage equality – in a video he originally posted online, a North Carolina man points out a nearby pro-equality sign from the Protect All North Carolina Families coalition, and proceeds to fire his gun at the sign.
After firing the shots, the man appears to say “That’s how we deal with it around here.”
It’s pretty shocking. The video is no longer available on YouTube, but check out a local news story covering it:
To help defeat this discriminatory amendment, act now and donate to HRC’s North Carolina PAC. We’ll be matching any donations we receive until midnight tonight up to $25,000.
