It’s been a big news day for several straight allies featured in HRC’s Americans for Marriage Equality campaign.
As you’ve probably heard, Newark mayor and staunch LGBT rights advocate Cory Booker can add hero to his long list of personal distinctions. Booker is currently recovering from second-degree burns and smoke inhalation after rescuing his neighbor from a burning building last night.
Mayor Booker was the first prominent American featured in our Americans for Marriage Equality campaign back in October. Rewatch his powerful testimonial below.
In other news, Parks and Rec star Nick Offerman spoke with MSNBC’s Thomas Roberts this morning about why he and wife Megan Mullally added their own voices to HRC’s marriage equality campaign.
“We have lots of friends and loved ones that are directly affected by this problem,” said Offerman. “I have a hard time not being emotional about it… These people just want to be a loving family.” See the full interview below.
Americans for Marriage Equality is a public engagement campaign featuring prominent Americans who support committed gay and lesbian couples getting married. Past videos include the Rev. Al Sharpton, Kristen Bell, Jason Mraz, Cybill Shepherd, Scott Fujita and a dozen other celebrities and civic leaders. Learn more at www.hrc.org/MarriageEquality.
