The following post comes from HRC Digital Media Intern Eric Cameron:
The Oklahoma bill aimed at reinstating “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” for the Oklahoma National Guard is moving toward a Monday vote.
HB 2195, sponsored by State Rep. Mike Reynolds (R-Oklahoma City), would ban gay men and women from serving openly in the Oklahoma National Guard. The bill would raise former DADT legislation to a ludicrous new extreme by allowing commanders to inquire directly about a soldier’s sexual orientation.
The House Veterans and Military Affairs Committee is expected to vote on the measure Monday, February 20 at 3:00 p.m.
HRC is fighting alongside The Equality Network and the ACLU of Oklahoma to prevent passage of this dated and discriminatory bill.
